Life Down Wattle Lane v2 - Quality Over Quantity

The Power of the First 21

A Saffron Update from Down Wattle Lane

They say the first step is the hardest, but in saffron farming, it’s the first inch through the soil.

So far, we have officially harvested 21 flowers. Now, for those doing the math on our 1,000-corm trial, that’s a 2.1% success rate so far. That means we only have 979 to go before we hit that mythical 100% bloom rate!

While we wait for the rest of our "underground army" to wake up, these first 21 have been a masterclass in botanical precision. We’ve been busy separating the harvest into three distinct treasures:

The Red Stigmas:
Our premium Loburn Saffron, currently curing in the dark to develop that world-class aroma.

The Yellow Stamens:
Being dried for natural, vibrant golden dyes.

The Purple Petals:
Destined for our boutique botanical range.

Year One is all about the "proof of concept." We aren't rushing for volume; we are focusing on the perfection of the process. Every thread is hand-picked, hand-processed, and protected from the harsh Canterbury sun to ensure the highest quality.

Stay tuned as the "Harvest Watch" continues. 979 to go... but who's counting? (We are. We definitely are.)
